Potlatch

Registration

There are three parts to the Potlatch bid process:

  • Online registration - closed
Potlatch 2009 players must be 18 or over. Please contact potlatch@discnw.org with any questions.
  • Paper registration - When you finish the online registration, use the link to print a copy. You can update your online registration as much as you need to, but we need the basic info in hardcopy. Send your printed registration and along with your payment. Mail the paper registration along with any supporting materials to:
    DiscNW
    ATTN: Potlatch 2009
    P.O. Box 85112
    Seattle, WA 98145-1112
  • Payment: $950 USD initial payment per team. This fee covers up to 18 players per team. Please send checks made out to DiscNW when you submit your bid. Bids are considered "Received" when the online registration, paper registration, AND initial tournament fee have been received. If your bid is accepted, we'll need you to confirm your exact roster and list all players on your team. After 18 players, there will be an individual player fee of $40 per person. For example, if your team comes to Potlatch with 21 players, you'll pay the initial $950 fee at time of registration, and then we'll contact you separately to make payment arrangements for an additional $120 fee. All fees will need to be paid prior to the tournament, and only registered players will have access to Potlatch game play and services.

Wait!!! And check the Bid Status page for updates. If you need to know earlier to plan travel, contact the TDs and we'll see what we can do.

The bid selection process is a lengthy one. We factor in a variety of factors. Spirit, History, Experience, Geography, Bid Creativity, Volunteer Activities for DiscNW (local teams only) all can be factors in awarding some teams bids and telling others to keep trying. We want to see your creativity, not just a print out of your roster!!! Here are two examples of great bids received in the past:

Please limit videos to 2-4 minutes (we love seeing your creativity, but please keep in mind we can't spend days watching all the submissions). Also, YouTube videos are just one form of expressing your team's creativity. Feel free to utilize other forms of media as you see fit. * Please don't send perishable goods. We open the bid packages all at once for the selection process in late April, so items like fresh fruit or ice cream sent in March might not survive very well.

In year's past the tournament has had roughly the following geographic break-down:

1/3 of the teams are from the Greater Seattle Area. This is necessary to handle the many tasks associated with the tournament (picking up bagels, going to Costco, part clean-up, field set-up, etc.). As the tournament has gotten larger, we have required more help. This 1/3 ratio has helped us maintain the quality of Potlatch.

1/3 of the teams are from the non-Seattle Northwest. Because of our proximity to cities such as Portland, Vancouver BC, and San Francisco, we get a lot of interest from the greater Northwest. DiscNW is, after all, the Northwest Ultimate Association.

1/3 of the teams are from outside the Northwest. It is important that the tournament show a good stratum of the International ultimate scene. For this reason, much emphasis is given to teams outside the Greater Northwest.

If you have more questions on the bid selection process, please feel free to contact us at potlatch@discnw.org.
